Case Study | March 6, 2024 Penn Medicine Princeton Health

The Challenge

Upgrade an aging system to protect against outages, have demand response capabilities, reduce carbon footprint, and drive down costs

The Solution

Develop, finance, construct, own, and operate a microgrid that combines sustainable combined heat and power (CHP) with on-site solar generation and thermal storage to serve their entire healthcare campus

The Result

Penn Medicine Princeton now has a sustainable, highly efficient, and reliable system that produces:

106,000 pounds of steam per hour

4,400 tons of cooling

4.5 MW of CHP

203 kW of on-site solar generation

7.5 MW of emergency power

30,000 tons/hour thermal ice storage

3x the emergency power their diesel-fueled system provided
